Who we are

Additional Information

Heartstrings Counseling is a counseling practice established to assist clients in achieving their goals. We offer play therapy, filial therapy and expressive therapies for children, adolescents. and their families. We also offer conventional therapy for individual adults and families who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other life circumstances.

We have a special focus on helping children and adults who have experienced trauma. In working with children and their families, we will utilize play, art, and other expressive therapies to help them work through whatever traumatic events that they have witnessed or experienced personally.

For adults seeing trauma treatment, we will be utilizing Dr. Peter Levine’s, author of Waking the Tiger: Healing the Trauma, Somatic Experiencing (SE) approach – as well as other proven, effective trauma therapy and ptsd treatment techniques. We focus on nervous system regulation which occurs as we work together to discharge the the trauma that got stuck during the original event on a physiological level.

We will work very slowly at first and increase the work only as you continue to build tolerance and capacity. In sessions, we’ll rarely work with a storyline. Rather, we will focus on body sensations, emotions, and create opportunities for your nervous system to develop more capacity for life and being more present to your experiences.
